Primula, also known as English primrose, is an excellent early season choice. Plants are low growing, 8 to 12 inches wide rosettes of leaves with a central cluster of showy flowers generally with yellow eyes. They bloom anytime it is warm enough and generally prefer part shade, but can handle lots of sun in cool months.
